When Does a Toilet Need to Be Replaced?

The toilet is one of the most long lasting plumbing fixtures, but it won’t last forever. Just like other plumbing fixtures in your home or business, your toilet will need to be replaced after years of use. It’s important to know when you should replace your toilet. After all, persistent toilet problems can render your bathroom unusable and cost you a lot of money down the line.

There Are Cracks in the Tank

Cracks in the bowl or the toilet tank are a big red flag that should never be ignored. In addition to looking unsightly, cracks at the bottom of the toilet or on the lower portion of the toilet tank can lead to leaks that will damage the flooring undeeath your toilet. In most cases, it is better to replace than repair a cracked toilet. Replacing a cracked toilet will save you money in the long run, as it will prevent leaks and potential water damage that could happen to your flooring.

Had sewer water backup in toilet and tub. Received callback as promised and arrived early. The tech determined we needed the main line to be cleared. He quickly located the opening and had us cleared in minutes. Very happy with the service. I was not prepared for the fee but it was an emergency.

Plumber, Phil, came out on short notice on a Saturday night and fixed our issue quickly, professionally and courteously. I contacted a different, well known plumbing company right before Mr. Rooter. The receptionist was rude and they didn’t call me back to say they couldn’t make it until after Phil left! The Mr. Rooter receptionist was very nice and they called me back quickly. I’m glad they did.

I was very happy that I went with Mr. Rooter’s. The service was very quick and up front. Jessie James was very helpful answering my questions and replacing my hot water heater. He was pleasurable to do business with. If another problem arises in my home, I will be using this company again.

A thorough, professional, pleasant experience. I had a back-up in the 50 year-old pipes of my new home. I called Mr. Rooter to have them locate the blockage, snake the line, and then use their video snake to get a visual of the integrity of the pipes. I’m glad that I called and will use them again for future needs.

You get what you pay for. Edwin Robles of Central NJ educated me as a 1st time homebuyer on why and what he was repairing, prevention, PROMPT,(on a sunday at that!) clean, knowledgeable, super professional but DOWN TO EARTH and at a REASONABLE PRICE! Sewer pipes unclogged and main water line fixed. I was no longer crying once job was thoroughly executed. After all $#@* $tinks but somebody has to do it and I HIGHLY recommend him and this company for a job well done. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Absolutely lovely office staff! I always knew when the repair person was coming. Lorenzo our repair guy was awesome, I really don't think there is anything he can't do. He looks young, but don't let that fool you! So happy all the repairs are behind us. We really just did a one-stop shopping and decided to have everything we've put off fixed because it was such a tremendous experience!

When Does a Toilet Need to Be Replaced?

At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we specialize in toilet repair and toilet replacement, so we know when your toilet needs to be repaired or replaced. In this article, we will outline the common toilet problems that signal the need for toilet replacement.

You Deal With Frequent Clogs

If your toilet gets clogged a lot, it’s probably a sign that something is wrong with your toilet. Constant clogging is common in older low-flush toilets, which tend to struggle to move waste products properly. However, frequent toilet clogs can also be a sign that there’s something clogging the drain pipes that you can’t reach on your own. It’s advisable to call a local plumber to come out and inspect your toilet and recommend a better toilet model for your needs.

Your Toilet Has Reached the End of Its Lifespan

While your toilet is meant to last for several decades, it reaches a point where a replacement is necessary. A toilet that has reached the end of its lifespan is likely to be less efficient than a newer toilet. In addition to being inefficient, an old toilet may be too outdated to work in a mode home. Even if your old toilet is working properly, there are many ways you can benefit from a toilet upgrade. For instance, a newer model will come with aesthetic benefits, added functionalities, and more efficient flushing.

Your Toilet Uses Too Much Water

Older toilets made in the 1980s and 1990s often use up to seven gallons of water per flush, while mode models use one or two gallons of water per flush. If you have an older toilet in your home and your water bill is extremely high, it’s time to switch to a mode toilet and save money on your water bill.
