Every first-time home buyer dreams of owning an older home on an oversized lot or in an established neighborhood with extensive construction. However, older homes have their fair share of plumbing issues that can wreak havoc later after settling. Most plumbing problems go undetected until a significant issue calls for a plumber. At Mr. Rooter Plumbing, we have an experienced team well-equipped to help you bring your plumbing system to code and avoid costly repairs and replacements.
Most homes in North America were built during the mid-20th century and had old plumbing wo out and probably damaged. This means homes 50 years old have plumbing that has perhaps seen better days, and pipes can go for years without the homeowner checking on them. The type of pipe used can help determine their condition, and our competent plumber can help you make an informed decision.
It was a late Saturday night. We had a super stubborn clog in some old galvanized pipes. Mr. Rooter send out Phil. Phil was great! He found the problem pretty quick. With determination and professionalism he final got it cleared out. I would recommend Mr. Rooter and Phil to anyone! He even cleaned up. We are so happy we choose Mr. Rooter!
We had a plumbing emergency and found Mr. Rooter while frantically searching for a 24-hour plumber. We feel like we hit a gold mine. Not only did we get a timely response. Everyone at Mr. Rooter was friendly, professional, competent and went above and beyond. Our plumber, Phil, was extremely helpful and gave us tips we could use moving firwars. Not to mention, the cost was extremely reasonable.
Had sewer water backup in toilet and tub. Received callback as promised and arrived early. The tech determined we needed the main line to be cleared. He quickly located the opening and had us cleared in minutes. Very happy with the service. I was not prepared for the fee but it was an emergency.
Plumber, Phil, came out on short notice on a Saturday night and fixed our issue quickly, professionally and courteously. I contacted a different, well known plumbing company right before Mr. Rooter. The receptionist was rude and they didn’t call me back to say they couldn’t make it until after Phil left! The Mr. Rooter receptionist was very nice and they called me back quickly. I’m glad they did.
I just wanted to say James did a great job at my house. Excellent service, professional and very nice. Thank you so much for helping me with my plumbing problem. Did wonderful job.
I was very happy that I went with Mr. Rooter’s. The service was very quick and up front. Jessie James was very helpful answering my questions and replacing my hot water heater. He was pleasurable to do business with. If another problem arises in my home, I will be using this company again.
A thorough, professional, pleasant experience. I had a back-up in the 50 year-old pipes of my new home. I called Mr. Rooter to have them locate the blockage, snake the line, and then use their video snake to get a visual of the integrity of the pipes. I’m glad that I called and will use them again for future needs.
You get what you pay for. Edwin Robles of Central NJ educated me as a 1st time homebuyer on why and what he was repairing, prevention, PROMPT,(on a sunday at that!) clean, knowledgeable, super professional but DOWN TO EARTH and at a REASONABLE PRICE! Sewer pipes unclogged and main water line fixed. I was no longer crying once job was thoroughly executed. After all $#@* $tinks but somebody has to do it and I HIGHLY recommend him and this company for a job well done. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
Absolutely lovely office staff! I always knew when the repair person was coming. Lorenzo our repair guy was awesome, I really don't think there is anything he can't do. He looks young, but don't let that fool you! So happy all the repairs are behind us. We really just did a one-stop shopping and decided to have everything we've put off fixed because it was such a tremendous experience!
If you don't know the signs to look out for, hiring a reputable plumber for regular maintenance checks can help address potentially failing, and outdated plumbing components before the issue gets out of hand. Before deciding to purchase an older house, here are some common problems that a plumber should assess to avoid future plumbing-related issues.
Homes built in the 1960s had galvanized pipes, and if this is the case for you, there's a huge problem. This type of pipe is made of iron and coated with zinc which erodes over time, making it susceptible to rust. Failure to address this issue can lead to contamination of your drinking water and various health complications.
Plumbing in homes built between 1970 and 1990 is similar to those in the '20s, and homebuyers are advised to check for polybutylene. This type of plastic is known to have a bad reaction with the oxidants found in water, causing it to break faster than metal pipes. It is advisable to have the entire plumbing changed to prevent complications in the future.
Mode homes are built with PEX pipes, CPVC pipes, and copper pipes resistant to corrosion and can handle extreme temperatures. However, there are specific plumbing issues that one needs to be on the lookout for, especially in homes that are more than twenty years old. One of these issues is buckled pipes formed when your home shifts, causing the flow of water to slow and creating pools within your sewer line. As sewer lines build up waste, they become buckled, leading to leaks, backups, and blockages.
Most established neighborhoods have big trees, which are known to invade water pipes that have a weakness and are leaking. Tree roots can find hairline cracks along with the piping and start to grow inwards, putting pressure on the line and eventually cracking it. Luckily, routine inspections can ensure such issues are dealt with before you find yourself with a flooded home. Contact us today at Mr. Rooter Plumbing, and talk to a plumber about a plumbing inspection. We guarantee quality services at cost-effective prices.
