Pipe corrosion is a common phenomenon that can have many causes. It works silently, eating away at the metal of your pipes, causing them to weaken and eventually collapse. If left untreated, corrosion can expose your home to water leaks and lead to water quality problems.
It was a late Saturday night. We had a super stubborn clog in some old galvanized pipes. Mr. Rooter send out Phil. Phil was great! He found the problem pretty quick. With determination and professionalism he final got it cleared out. I would recommend Mr. Rooter and Phil to anyone! He even cleaned up. We are so happy we choose Mr. Rooter!
We had a plumbing emergency and found Mr. Rooter while frantically searching for a 24-hour plumber. We feel like we hit a gold mine. Not only did we get a timely response. Everyone at Mr. Rooter was friendly, professional, competent and went above and beyond. Our plumber, Phil, was extremely helpful and gave us tips we could use moving firwars. Not to mention, the cost was extremely reasonable.
Had sewer water backup in toilet and tub. Received callback as promised and arrived early. The tech determined we needed the main line to be cleared. He quickly located the opening and had us cleared in minutes. Very happy with the service. I was not prepared for the fee but it was an emergency.
Plumber, Phil, came out on short notice on a Saturday night and fixed our issue quickly, professionally and courteously. I contacted a different, well known plumbing company right before Mr. Rooter. The receptionist was rude and they didn’t call me back to say they couldn’t make it until after Phil left! The Mr. Rooter receptionist was very nice and they called me back quickly. I’m glad they did.
I just wanted to say James did a great job at my house. Excellent service, professional and very nice. Thank you so much for helping me with my plumbing problem. Did wonderful job.
I was very happy that I went with Mr. Rooter’s. The service was very quick and up front. Jessie James was very helpful answering my questions and replacing my hot water heater. He was pleasurable to do business with. If another problem arises in my home, I will be using this company again.
A thorough, professional, pleasant experience. I had a back-up in the 50 year-old pipes of my new home. I called Mr. Rooter to have them locate the blockage, snake the line, and then use their video snake to get a visual of the integrity of the pipes. I’m glad that I called and will use them again for future needs.
You get what you pay for. Edwin Robles of Central NJ educated me as a 1st time homebuyer on why and what he was repairing, prevention, PROMPT,(on a sunday at that!) clean, knowledgeable, super professional but DOWN TO EARTH and at a REASONABLE PRICE! Sewer pipes unclogged and main water line fixed. I was no longer crying once job was thoroughly executed. After all $#@* $tinks but somebody has to do it and I HIGHLY recommend him and this company for a job well done. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
Absolutely lovely office staff! I always knew when the repair person was coming. Lorenzo our repair guy was awesome, I really don't think there is anything he can't do. He looks young, but don't let that fool you! So happy all the repairs are behind us. We really just did a one-stop shopping and decided to have everything we've put off fixed because it was such a tremendous experience!
In this guide, Mr. Rooter Plumbing outlines the common causes of corrosion and the signs to watch out for. We will also look into the measures you can take to prevent pipe corrosion.
Hard water contains a high concentration of dissolved minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium. These minerals can cause scale buildup inside pipes, resulting in corrosion and leaks. If you live in an area with hard water, it’s a good idea to install a whole-home water softener as a preventive measure.
Oxygenated water can speed up oxidation and cause metal pipes to rust. It’s advisable to have a reputable plumbing service test your water quality.
Acidic water is one of your plumbing pipes’ worst enemies. It can dissolve the protective layer in pipes and cause corrosion. Maintaining the water within a neutral pH range can help reduce corrosion.
Frequent use of liquid drain cleaners can significantly accelerate corrosion, not to mention the risk of clogging your drains. Instead of relying on chemical drain cleaners, you’re better off calling a professional to clean your drains.
Some easy-to-spot signs that your plumbing is corroded include:
If you notice these signs, it’s advisable to reach out to a skilled plumber to inspect your plumbing and provide you with recommendations. In cases of extensive or severe corrosion, where the structural integrity of the pipe is compromised, pipe replacement is often the most effective and long-lasting solution.
Regular water testing helps you stay informed about any changes in water quality, allowing you to take timely action. If your water supply is known to be hard or has a high mineral content, consider using a water softener or filtration system to reduce the corrosive elements.
Chemical drain cleaners can do more harm than good. They are highly caustic and can corrode the pipes over time. Opt for safer and more effective alteatives, like using a drain snake or environmentally-friendly drain cleaning products. Your pipes will thank you for it in the long run.
Pipe insulation may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about corrosion, but it's actually a good preventive measure. Insulating your pipes can help regulate the temperature of the water running through them. Why does this matter? Well, temperature extremes can speed up corrosion processes. By keeping your pipes snugly insulated, you reduce the chances of sudden temperature changes that can contribute to corrosion.
Getting your plumbing system checked regularly by a professional plumbing service is like giving your pipes a health check-up. It's essential in spotting early signs of corrosion or any potential issues. A trained eye can identify vulnerable areas, wo-out sections, or signs of trouble that might escape your notice. Routine plumbing inspections are a proactive way to catch problems before they tu into costly and inconvenient repairs.
If you have noticed signs of corrosion in your pipes, act fast to avoid plumbing disasters. Contact Mr. Rooter Plumbing for help identifying the cause and repairing or replacing your corroded pipes.
